PROFILE OF PRINCIPAL PHYSIOTHERAPIST
Tasneem Basrai is a fully registered Physiotherapist with the Allied Health Professionals Council (AHPC). Her work has earned her recognition and respect from various medical professionals as well as patients under her charge who have benefitted from her individualized therapy interventions. Below is a brief profile of what Tasneem has been involved in over the 25+ years that she has worked as a Physiotherapist.

Started her career with Tan Tock Seng Hospital where she was instrumental in setting up the outpatient musculoskeletal department.

Appointed as a coordinator for her fellow Physiotherapists in the geriatric unit due to her keen interest in gerontology and a passion for sharing her knowledge and skills.

Specialised in rehabilitation therapy of patients with varied conditions like traumatic brain injury, stroke, amputees and spinal cord injuries.
»
Pioneered the serial casting program in the Rehab Department of TTSH and has also done serial casting for patients at home.
»
Initiated the Domiciliary/Home Based PT arm of TTSH as she was convinced that rehabilitation does not just stop in the hospitals and a therapy program at home is equally important to improve the benefits gained from the therapy in the institution.

Managed the operational and clinical aspects as the coordinator of the Community Rehab Program (CRP) in TTSH and was instrumental in establishing the clinical worthiness of CRP by coaching and guiding the new team of professionals who joined the program.

Networked extensively with various agencies in the community to ensure that there is continuing care of patients once they are discharged from the hospital.

Organized workshops and given talks to various conferences on the community/medical model as well as effectiveness of a Home-Based Program.

Trained staff of Day Care Centres islandwide via the METT (Maintainence Exercise Therapy and Treatment) program that was run in collaboration with MCYS and WDA.

Employed as key Physiotherapist by Agency for Integrated Care (AIC) to assess the equipment requirements of over 100 clients eligible for Senior Mobility Fund (SMF) when SMF was initially launched.

Selected as key independent consultant to support the study for the National Care Assessment Framework. She had to review 200 patients case notes to determine appropriate placement outcome for patients and to validate these placement outcomes against the Service Matching Algorithm.

Conducted group exercise classes for Parkinson's patients at the Parkinson's Society Singapore

Experienced in running the STEP (Strength Training Exercise Program) for Health Promotion Board that targets the community dwelling elderly in Falls Prevention
Currently, Tasneem is involved in holistic rehabilitation care of patients in their own home. 90% of her case load consists of elderly patients. She is also providing locum Physiotherapy services to the eldercare centre run by Tsao Foundation at COMSA (Community of Successful Ageing) @ Whampoa. She is an Associate Faculty at Singapore Institute of Technology Physiotherapy Program. She volunteers in running elder related programmes in her local community and at various organisations that care for the caregiver.
